Tonight our tiny little church in America live-streamed with a tiny little church in southern Haiti. We heard first-hand of their needs for shelter, drinking water, food and reconstruction. They asked us to pray for peace and for the future of their lives, and then they busted out in full-on Haitian worship, praising God. We called to encourage them and lift them up, to let them know we're standing with them and we're praying for them, yet once again the Haitian church surprised by giving more than they could ever receive. They, who have lost so much, modeled for us how to praise God... even in the storm.
It's hard for us to imagine the reality they live in. Picture the last time you saw aerial footage of any Smalltown, USA that had been in the path of a terrible tornado, and remember the wake of that destruction. Now picture that going on for miles and miles and miles, as far as the eye can see. In our terms, imagine no water coming from the faucet, no heat coming from the register, no food in the grocery stores, no gas in the tank, and now no roof over your head as you lie down tonight. Imagine also no help coming, because the rest of the waking world is too wrapped up in politics.

Now imagine praising God in the midst of all that, and not humming at some decibel just above a whisper. Imagine genuinely worshiping at the very top of your lungs.
